Childhood is a significant period of time in our lives. It is a time when we grow without noticing, a time when we make physical, social, and emotional change that often becomes irreversible later in our lives; our childhoods shape us. Throughout my life, I have always seemed to be surrounded by groups of children. Whether it’s the kids in my family, my neighbors, or children who dance at my mother’s dance studio, children have a constant presence in my world. Through my interactions and observations, I wanted to explore this world that children live in through their individual thoughts, curiosity, and the unique personalities that they possess. This process during this investigation has allowed me to both discover and capture the pure vulnerability of childhood. I have witnessed the unconscious yet undeniable confidence in who they are and who they hope to become. In this series of photographs, I aim to dig deeper into the element of who these children really are and how their childhoods have already and continue to shape them.
