Artist Statement
Experiencing cinema connects me with those around me. Ever since I was young, I would spend evenings marathoning films with my mom. Over the years, we’ve made lists of directors and countries we want to explore, and we are able to do that through film. My best friend and I talk about movies incessantly, and think this shapes a lot of our ideas about life. Watching movies creates a new lens to see the world, even if it is a temporary one. So when it came time to create my Senior Project, I knew I wanted to explore my personal experience with these films. As my work progressed, and with feedback from my teachers, I discovered my work would be presented best in the medium of a movie poster, just like the ones you see as you walk to the ticket booth of your local movie theater. Going to the movies, and watching movies, has always made an impact on me, and this project is really focusing on the moments in film that have stuck with me the most. My memory of individual movies is purely visual, and the shots I’ve created reflect the images as I see them when thinking of these movies.
